Sprout Island Organic Seed Starter, 8 Quart Bag

The Coast of Maine Sprout Island Organic Seed Starter is a premium, ready-to-use growing medium formulated to give seeds and plant cuttings the ideal environment for healthy germination and root development. This organic mix is designed for home gardeners who want to start vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other plants from seed or propagate cuttings indoors, in a greenhouse, or in garden beds. Whether you're filling cell packs, flats, or containers, this 8-quart bag provides enough material for larger planting projects.

A rich blend of sphagnum peat moss, perlite, kelp meal, worm castings, and well-aged compost creates a balanced, nutrient-rich foundation. The addition of mycorrhizae—beneficial fungi that colonize plant roots—enhances nutrient uptake and root development, giving seedlings a stronger start. The natural moisture-retention and aeration properties of the mix support healthy seed germination, while the mild organic fertilizer charge creates a biologically diverse growing environment.
