What We’re About

Helpful people. Quality products. Supporting our local community for generations.

At Busy Beaver, it’s our mission to be your favorite neighborhood home improvement center by providing a “just right” assortment of everything you need, whether its for routine yard maintenance or your next home DIY project. We offer just the right mix of products at a great value every day, along with friendly, helpful staff who love to help their neighbors make the most of their homes.

A culture of caring for our communities.

Busy Beaver is uniquely local. We’re focused on providing you with a level of service that’s only possible when employees deeply care about the communities they serve. Our employees are familiar with the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the local homes, landscapes, weather-related needs and more. And they can’t wait to help you navigate your next DIY project, whether it’s fixing a leaky pipe or embarking on a full-scale kitchen renovation.

When you care this much about the community, it’s goes beyond four walls.

Sure, Busy Beaver wants to improve our neighborhoods one DIY home improvement project at a time, but our dedication goes beyond that. We also support our communities through local groups who exist to make life better for local residents. Organizations like the Make a Wish Foundation, the Pittsburgh Zoo, Boys and Girls Clubs, local baseball teams, and more.

Our values are part of our history:

Since our first Busy Beaver lumberyards opened in Verona, Clariton, and Carnegie, PA back in 1962, a lot has changed. Inventory is just one of them. Our first home improvement center opened in suburban Pittsburgh in 1975, and we’ve been offering our customers an assortment of products that’s “just right” for all of their DIY and home maintenance needs ever since.

In 2015, Busy Beaver joined the True Value co-op. This alliance benefits our customers because it gives us more buying power, allowing us to offer better products at lower prices and also allows us to open new locations more quickly!

Busy Beaver is still here today because we’re constantly striving to adapt to our customers’ changing needs, finding a perfect niche in the shadow of “big box” home improvement centers that are, well, less homey.

About our True Value stores

With like-minded company cultures focused on getting to know customers at the local level, providing helpful, efficient, hands on-support, and bringing customers better products at lower prices, Busy Beaver and True Value have been a natural fit from the start of our alliance back in 2015.

In 2018, things got even better, for us, and for our customers! The True Value Company decided to move away from their co-op model, opting instead to become a wholesale supplier of products and services to its independent retailers. This allowed Busy Beaver to expand more quickly, acquiring several True Value stores in just a couple of years (our Moon Township and Latrobe locations in PA, along with Minerva, Canton, and most recently Salem locations in Ohio).

Because our True Value stores are truly independent, we can focus on what is right for our local customers in each of the neighborhoods we serve, regardless of what other True Value stores are doing thousands of miles away.

Are our True Value stores different from our Busy Beaver locations?

At our True Value stores, you’ll find the same helpful, caring staff and great value that you’d find at our Busy Beaver stores. Just like Busy Beaver, everything we do at our True Value stores is done with the needs of the local neighborhoods in mind. Our True Value locations are your neighborhood hardware stores, providing all the essentials for DIY repairs and smaller home-improvement projects, including paint centers with True Value paint brands. You might say our True Value stores provide, “everything but the kitchen sink.”

And, just like our Busy Beaver locations, our True Value stores bring you quality products at an outstanding value, every day. See what’s featured in our sales flyer this week!
