Did you get one of our Mini Planter Kits while we were at the Pittsburgh Zoo May 4 – 8, 2021? Follow these instructions to plant them:
Step 1. Carefully remove saucer lid and lock it into place underneath planter. The lid now will act as a saucer and catch the excess water.
Step 2. Remove seed packet and set aside. The only item that should be in your planter now is the soil disk.
Step 3. Slowly add a little bit of water to the soil disk. Use a plastic knife or small gardening tool and slowly loosen the soil. You may have to keep adding a little bit of water to keep the soil moist. This helps to loosen the soil.
Step 4. Once the soil is ready, take your plastic knife or small tool and make a small hole in the soil. Then open up your seed packet and pour the seeds in the soil.
Step 5. Once all the seeds are placed, cover the seeds with the soil. You can then slowly add a little bit of water. Be careful not to add too much, since you already added water to the soil in the beginning.
Step 6. Place mini planter in a place that will get full sun and check on it daily. Add a little water if you notice the soil starting to dry.
Your cosmos bright lights flowers are now ready to grow! These flowers are low maintenance and require an average amount of water. You can promote continuous blooming by pinching off dead blossoms. These flowers can even attract butterflies and hummingbirds!
